Mission and objectives

UNDP is the United Nations largest agency with a mandate to eradicate poverty, through sustainable and inclusive human development.

UNDP has been in Nigeria since the country became independent in 1960 providing capacity building and policy development support to the Federal Government of Nigeria in areas of Governance & Peace Building, Inclusive growth, and Sustainable Development.

UNDP continues to support the government in the implementation of development interventions aimed at meeting medium to long term goals enshrined in National and Subnational development plans as well as the Sustainable Development Goals.

The goal of UNDP is to improve the lives of the people of Nigeria, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and to ensure a future that offers equality, dignity, and opportunity for all. UNDP works in partnership with the federal Government of Nigeria, development partners, UN agencies, civil society and local communities to help identify local solutions to meet global and national development challenges through a range of interventions that combine UNDP’s expertise and comparative advantage in the areas of Governance & Peace Building, Inclusive growth and Sustainable Development.

Context

The Federal Government of Nigeria jointly with UNDP and with support from the European Union launched a nationwide youth empowerment Programme aimed at connecting fresh graduates to employment opportunities through a 12-month paid placement in public and private enterprises.

Following the launch of the onboarding process in October 2022, over 2,000 fellows have commenced their placements across the country.

As the number of Fellows commencing their placements across the country continues to grow, there is need to ensure effective coordination at geo-political level, regular engagement with fellows and host Organizations and sustained trouble shooting to anticipate any challenges and respond as they arise, while also monitoring implementation.

Task description

To ensure coordinated, effective Programme implementation and sustained engagement and contact with Fellows and Host Organisations, UNDP is seeking to recruit five (5) qualified NJFP Regional Ecosystem Coordinator as part of the Fellows Management Unit working closely with Impact Measurement & Fellows Support Team and under the overall coordination of the Team lead of Jubilee Fellows Programme. The NJFP Regional Coordinator will perform the following tasks:

a. Working closely with the Tech and Data Team, support in the development and maintenance of a database of matched fellows and host Organisations in respective regions.

b. Working closely with the Project Operations Team, support in tracking and monitoring Fellow’s attendance lists in consultation with host Organisations.

c. Working closely with the Project Client Success Team, support in timely collation of grievances from host organisations and fellows for proactive action.

d. Working closely with the Knowledge Management & Reporting Team, design and support the implementation of peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange sessions between Fellows and Host Organisations at regional level.

e. Working closely with the Impact Measurement & Learning Manager, support in consolidating project performance reports from fellows placed with the respective geo-political zone.

f. Working closely with the Communication, Outreach and Advocacy Team, support in building a data base of human centered stories from both fellows and host Organisations.

g. Working closely with the Strategy and Coordination team, support with partnerships engagement efforts to grow the portfolio of host Organisations at geo-political level

h. Working closely with the Strategy & Coordination Team convene regular town hall meetings (virtual & physical only when feasible) to sustain engagement and build a community around the NJFP.

i. Foster sustained engagement and outreach with key stakeholders – especially private sector, innovation ecosystem, employment agencies, NGOs, State Governments on the NJFP.

Required experience
  1. 3 years of experience in Youth empowerment, private sector engagement, stakeholder engagement, digital transformation or related field in the respective geo-political zone.
  2. Proven knowledge of and experience in qualitative, quantitative data collection, analysis and reporting, as well as monitoring and evaluation
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills to provide briefing to senior executives and to write well-conceived, clear and strategic reports.
  4. Strong analytical, evaluation and conceptual thinking skills.
  5. Experience with working in international organizations an added advantage
  6. Experience working in the specific geo-political zone is an added advantage
  7. Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, email, etc.). Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge
  8. Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  9. Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
  10. Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  11. Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  12. Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  13. Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  14. Sound security awareness;
  15. Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
