TINUBU AWARDS 210 EX-CORPS MEMBERS AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT, SCHOLARSHIPS, & CASH
On Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR has awarded automatic employment, full scholarships (up to PhD level) within Nigeria, and ₦250,000 cash each to 210 outstanding ex-Corps Members who served the nation between 2020 and 2023.
Out of the 210 beneficiaries, 200 were recognized for exceptional contributions across NYSC’s four cardinal programmes. While 10 were honoured for sustaining life-transforming injuries during their service year.
The President directed the Head of Service of the Federation and the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission to fast-track their immediate employment into the Federal Civil Service.
The announcement was made during the 2025 President’s NYSC Honours Award Ceremony, held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Overall Best Awardees recognized are
1. Nunaya Polycarp Nunaya (Adamawa, served in Kwara)
2. Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (Imo, served in Cross River)
3. Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (Abia, served in Cross River)
4. Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (Osun, served in Rivers)
Top Female Awardees recognized are:
1. Akase Patience Nguwasen (Benue, served in Gombe)
2. Igwe Anne Chikaobi (Enugu, served in Sokoto)
Representing the President was Mrs Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment. President Tinubu praised General Yakubu Gowon for founding the NYSC in 1973 and commended Corps Members for over five decades of contributions in education, health, agriculture, and national unity. He also lauded NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) for empowering youths with life skills.
Furthermore, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Youth Development, applauded NYSC for its role in rural development, health outreach, education, and economic growth.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, NYSC Director General, praised the Corps Members for their dedication and emphasized NYSC’s reform journey under the Renewed Hope Agenda:
● Corps Allowance raised from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000
● 6,340 Corps Medical Personnel (including 2,319 doctors) served 4 million Nigerians via the HIRD programme
● 250,000 Corps Members trained annually through revamped SAED, with focus on tech and market-relevant skills
● NYSC Trust Fund bill signed, aimed at upgrading infrastructure and post-service support
He concluded by honoring fallen heroes of the Scheme and reaffirmed NYSC’s ongoing relevance and reform.
